Beltane (also known as May Day) is an ancient fire festival which celebrates the return of fertility to the earth. It is characterized by bright colors, dancing, singing and merry-making of all kinds. The well-know May Pole harkens back to a time when the returning sun rejoins the Mother Earth to begin a new season of planting and raising crops. Many wild and magical things were said to occur on this day!

Beltane / JL Greene
Come dance the ring and with me sing
Of the queen and king of Beltane
Where the bold Greenman gives his gentle hand
To the Lady of the Land at Beltane
Come brightly dressed and we will bless
The field's success at Beltane
Love is in the air and mirth to share
A raucous affair is Beltane
Refrain
No longer looms the winter's gloom
The flowers bloom at Beltane
Spring is born upon this morn
The fields adorn at Beltane
With Winter past the light gains fast
Mab's spell is cast at Beltane
Love is in the air and mirth to share
A raucous affair is Beltane
Refrain
The lover's quest is doubly blessed
At this springtime fest of Beltane
The maiden fair with flowers in her hair
Her love ensnares at Beltane
The sun of gold his ways unfold
Bright and bold at Beltane
Love is in the air and mirth to share
A raucous affair is Beltane
Run away with me to the Land of the Sidhe
Set your spirit free at Beltane
The fires blaze as the fiddle plays
Wild are the ways of Beltane
Dance and drum til the day is done
It's all for fun at Beltane
Love is in the air and mirth to share
A raucous affair is Beltane
